Life with dogs means watching them try to make sense of the weird things humans do, like staring into glowing rectangles that beep and buzz for no clear reason. While some dogs ignore it all in favor of treats or belly rubs, others take a more investigative approach. One video of a Golden Retriever’s hilarious reaction to hearing and seeing a phone alarm for the first time has just become the internet’s favorite moment of the week.

Golden Retriever is ‘confused’ by phone alarm in funny video

The video shows Chip, a Golden Retriever, standing in front of a couch and staring down at a ringing alarm with his tongue adorably poking out. The sound clearly has him puzzled. He tilts his head slightly, staring at the device as if trying to work out what kind of creature might be inside that could be making all that noise.

From across the room, his owner — who is recording him — calls out, asking Chip to bring the phone to her. True to his well-trained nature, Chip gently picks it up in his mouth and walks it over, still a bit wary of the odd noise it is making. His confused yet cooperative response struck a chord with viewers.

In a follow-up comment, Chip’s owner explained that while he hears this alarm every morning, this was the first time he actually saw the phone going off up close. Without that usual context, he seemed genuinely unsure about what he was witnessing. The combination of his mild confusion and his eagerness to help made the moment especially endearing.

One viewer wrote, “His little tongue sticking out the whole time,” calling out one of the video’s cutest details. Another asked, “Would it blow his mind if multiple alarms went off in the house at the same time?” — a thought that had his owner imagining even more hilarious confusion. A third commenter simply said, “So nice of him bringing the phone to you.”
