In a heartwarming video from Thailand, Rolo, a street dog who has been cared for by animal lover Niall Harbison for nearly two years, has shown remarkable recovery after being badly injured. Last week, Rolo suffered a double severe break in his leg and hip after being hit by a car. The incident left him in agonizing pain and hiding away from his usual pack mates — Mars Bar, Milky Way, and Twix — in a shack they consider home.

The urgency of the situation was compounded by Thailand’s monsoon season, which threatened to leave Rolo suffering in the floods. Harbison, who feeds Rolo daily, swiftly took action to help his canine friend. The pooch was transported to the team at Happy Doggo, where they sought a solution to save him.
The veterinarian they consulted performed a complicated surgery to address Rolo’s injuries. This procedure was a significant undertaking. Not only was it complex, but it also came with a hefty cost of around $2,000 (or 65,000 baht). Despite the financial strain, Harbison knew he had to help the dog he had grown so close to.
In the days following the operation, Rolo faced immense pain. He showed signs of distress and even attempted to bite those around him. This was a stark contrast to his typically “shy and gentle” demeanor, as described by Harbison. His discomfort was so severe that he could barely eat or take his medication.
However, just seven days after the life-saving surgery, Rolo surprised everyone by beginning to walk again. This unexpected recovery was celebrated as a testament to Rolo’s strength and the dedication of the team at Happy Doggo and the veterinary staff involved.
Rolo’s journey to recovery is far from over, as he must adhere to a strict six-week rest period to ensure complete healing. Harbison and his team are considering long-term solutions to keep Rolo safe and healthy, though they haven’t made any firm decisions yet.
