One Instagram video shows what happens when a no-nonsense Corgi decides she’s had enough of her bouncy new sibling.

The viral video, shared by Instagram user @maui_thegoldenpup, features two dogs from the same household — an older Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Ruby and her younger Golden Retriever sibling, Hugo. It opens sweetly, with the text “Ruby will be the best big sister to help raise Hugo,” but things quickly take a hilarious turn. From the first few clips, it is evident Ruby has her own definition of what “big sister” duties should look like.
Hugo is energetic and full of playful puppy energy, always trying to nudge Ruby into interaction. Ruby, on the other hand, isn’t having it. Whether it’s barking at him to back off while she’s lounging or flashing her teeth when he sniffs her toy, Ruby makes it clear who’s in charge.
In one clip, Ruby gives a long-suffering look as the caption reads, “Is he staying forever or what?” The Corgi’s reactions range from mildly annoyed to fully done, with one moment showing her barking after Hugo’s zoomies disturb her nap.
Their owner writes in the caption, “Ruby setting her boundaries straight, but don’t worry she’s harmless and never hurt a fly.” Ironically, it’s Maui, the older Golden Retriever in the house, who has had a few “bite accidents” that made Hugo wary.
Ruby’s reactions may seem grumpy, but they are actually quite typical for Corgis. Known for their herding instincts, Corgis are often assertive and independent. They are quick to establish boundaries and are not shy about voicing their opinions. While she may not be the most enthusiastic playmate, Ruby is simply teaching Hugo some dog-to-dog life lessons, and doing it with style.
