A dog named Sunny, who was heartbreakingly dragged by a truck, is now getting his happy ending right in time for Christmas. British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) has provided an update on Sunny’s story that touched the hearts of many.

In October, the BC SPCA reported about the animal protection officers seizing a young Collie mix male dog, Sunny, after he was dragged behind a truck for about 200 meters in Merritt, British Columbia. The pup was in poor condition, with abrasions to his front and back paw pads and hocks. His nails were shredded and he was also underweight. Moreover, Sunny had a body score of two out of nine, which was “very thin.”

Fortunately, Sunny made a recovery after the incident. In November, the BC SPCA’s Instagram page shared that the pup received the best care possible. The update noted, “The painful wounds on his paws were tended to with careful bandaging and close monitoring while they healed, and he was given pain relief medication to make his life as comfortable as possible.”

The organization continued to share that the team also put together a plan to help Sunny gain weight since he was very skinny on arrival. The BC SPCA revealed that the furbaby has been “looking and feeling so much better.” They added, “It’s amazing to see the shift in his personality.”

Following Sunny’s recovery update, the BC SPCA recently shared another heartwarming piece of news. The sweet canine found his forever home just in time for the holidays. Sunny’s new mom, Darlene, shared that they have changed his name to Buddy. The pup’s new parents gushed about falling in love with him at first sight upon meeting him.

Darlene shared Sunny was playing in the gated yard of the animal center when they met him. The canine was wearing a cone because he was neutered back then. Darlene recalled, “He saw us and ran over to us and started to give us kisses. Our heads were stuck in the cone with his.” The dog mom added he warmed up to them “quickly.”
